VMware vCenter Offline Upgrade
There are several reasons for upgrading a VMware vCenter offline. In my case, it was a dark site where the customer had no way to connect the vCenter to the Internet. This has the consequence that in the VAMI interface under URL updates is not displayed. What now?
Well, there is of course a way to update the dark site vCenter offline. Let’s get started 😉
First get the patch image at https://customerconnect.vmware.com/patch, define your vCenter Version or use multiple filters up to Build Numbers.
Select the desired vCenter image and download it.
Then upload the patch image to a datastore where the vCenter VM can access the file.
Next edit the vCenter VM by assigning the ISO image you just uploaded to the virtual drive.
Don’t forget to click on “Connect“. 😉
After you have attached the image to the vCenter VM, switch back to VAMI and search for the update image under Update with CD ROM only.
And there you have it:
Now install the update, as usual and very important:
Don’t forget to backup your vCenter before updating!!!
Enjoy! 🙂
