How to Update a Dell DataDomain Virtual Edition (DDVE) OS
If you want to update your DataDomain Virtual Edition, the whole thing is relatively simple, let’s get started right away. To avoid searching for the right spot at the Dell support page, we go to System under Maintenance on the DDVE:
We see that the current OS version according to the system is 7.11, if we click on DELL EMC ONLINE SUPPORT at the bottom, we get directly to the right page to get current updates of DD OS. Here there is 7.12 available so no major release, but to show the update process I will download this package once.
So we download the 7.12 release, if you want to check checksum values, just open the download element once and retrieve the values accordingly.
If you don’t know how to check checksum values on Windows, feel free to refer to the following post.
After the download you will have a .RPM package that needs to be uploaded to the DataDomain.
No sooner said than done, we switch to the GUI of the DDVE and click Upload Upgrade Package.
After the upload, the upgrade package is available to us and we can perform a precheck.
Once the precheck is through, we click Perform System Upgrade.
Another pre-check is performed, then the software is updated, the system is rebooted
After the upgrade itself, we can log in into to DDVE again
and see the new System Version: 7.12
The last step is to delete the Upgrade Package. And that’s it from this short Blog Post. If you have any question please leave it in the comments.
