Dell VxRail Node cluster extension fails “Enabling VMware HA…”
In my session today, I wanted expand a customers vSAN Streched Cluster with more VxRail Nodes. The Loudmouth service worked and so we were able to see and add the new node. However, the process stopped halfway with the following error message:
We reviewed various logs, which I listed in another blog post:
However, we have not found anything meaningful. If you want to cancel the adding process, you will get the message that you have to reimage the node due to existing configurations. After a brainstorm, it occurred to us that the new node has been hanging and running in the rack for a while – but in evaluation mode – and that was the problem. We looked at the assets under Licenses and found that the new node has no valid VMware vSphere license.
After the license was assigned, the node could be added without any problems and VMware HA could be activated.
So pay attention to your licenses and especially how long your newly acquired servers hang in your racks in evaluation mode. 😀
That’s it from this blog post, if you have any questions please post them in the comments below.
