Certificate for ‘Host.domain’ doesn’t match any of the subject alternative names

Before starting your VCF deployment, you should prepare your ESX servers. One part of this preparation is the topic of certificates. You must regenerate the certificates for each ESX server before adding them to the VCF installer. If you do not regenerate the certificates, the above error will occur with an additional message: localhost.localdomain.
This means that all of the ESX servers have the same name in their certificates. This causes the VCF installer to think that it is adding the same ESX server multiple times. Regenerating the certificates individually on the ESX servers will make this message disappear.

However, there is another situation involving a certificate error in which you will see the correct fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the servers inside the certificate, but something is still missing.

The cause of this issue is still incorrect preparation of the ESX servers. Check your DNS settings. Maybe the domain name or search domain is missing.

As soon as you resolve this issue, the second one will disappear. That’s all for this blog post. If you have any questions, please use the comment section below.
