Dell PowerProtect Data Manager Root Password expired
As the title of the blog post says, it is about restoring the root password of the PowerProtect Data Manager. Because once this password has expired, the system will not run properly until the password is restored.
You can set the expiration time for passwords to “never” in the UI of the PPDM, which I recommend for HomeLab purposes, but never for productive environments!
Important: An expired root password cannot be reset through the UI.
First, we need either access to the PPDM VM Console or a SSH session with the access data of the admin user:
I make it a little easier for myself and open a VM console, enter the root user credentials and I am immediately prompted to change the root password, after that you can change the admin or support password with:
passwd admin
# or
passwd support
And for the HomeLab colleagues among us, under Settings -> Authentication you can set the expiration time for the passwords:
