Dell PowerProtect – Cannot reset CBT while VM has an existing snapshot
In my last backup jobs I noticed in the Dell PowerProtect Data Manager that 1 asset was Completed with Exceptions. The warning was as follows:
Warnings :
message#1 : Change Block Tracking could not be reset, causing full backup: Cannot reset CBT while VM has an existing snapshot.
message#2 : Change Block metadata is not available for incremental backup, will take full backup of 'Hard disk 1'.
I have to admit that the warnings and errors in PowerProtect DataManager are mostly self-explanatory and well detailed. We can see that the backup job was successful, but Change Block Tracking (CBT) could not be reset due to an existing snapshot.
This is my PrivateAI VM, which I took a snapshot of before a certain change in the VM, and have not deleted or consolidated the snapshot in the meantime.
So after I consolidated the snapshot and started the backup job again.
The backup process ran smoothly and successfully backed up the VM.
