Computacenter – Datacenter2Go with Dell XR4000 & VMware vSAN
In my last blog post we talked about the Dell XR4000 and I referred you to this post at the end. If you haven’t read the first post yet, you can find it here:
After the Dell Technologies World, the XR4000 did not leave us alone. We talked with Marc again and again about how we can bring these server models closer to our customers. Intensive brainstorming and planning resulted in our Datacenter2Go in a regular travel suitcase:
Yes! You read correctly in a travel suitcase! Now you want to know, what we have built into the suitcase? Let us take a closer look:
For the management components like Microsoft AD, DNS and DHCP, we used my NUC.
To let the systems communicate with each other, we were looking for a switch that would give us both RJ45 and SFP+ ports. Here, the QNAP QSW-IM1200 switch was shortlisted. The switch is not Enterprise, but it is sufficient for our show case.
Instead of always having to connect to the environment with a cable, we organized an access point from Ubiquiti, which makes access much easier by providing its own wireless LAN.
In addition to the presented hardware, currently we have the following software releases on the environment:
From the composition of hard- and software we have built the following solutions from VMware as well as Dell, so that our customers can get a complete handson:
It would be boring, if we would stay with the current state, that’s why there is already the 2nd generation to our solution. Which I will present to you in a second post, but if you want to have a sneek peek, you should definitely visit us at VMware Explore 2023 in Barcelona! 😉
I would like to take this opportunity to thank my Dell colleagues Dietmar Tepass, Stefan Kinast, Robert Sedlacek, Andreas Schütze and Daniel Wilk from our Group Partner Management – for making the Datacenter2Go possible.
If you want to see this show case live just contact me over X or Linkeding or as mentioned
come to our Computacenter Booth at VMware Explore in Barcelona! – See you there! 😉
