irgNET – LAB 3.0 U1
Following on from the major update, we start with the topic of VMware vMotion. Live migration (vMotion) in ESX allows a virtual machine to move between two different hosts. Live storage migration (Storage vMotion) enables live migration of virtual disks on the fly.

Since I purchased the larger server, I had the opportunity to finally replace the HP Microserver Gen8. The HP DL380p Gen8 offers local storage with its integrated RAID controller P420i, which means I no longer need the FreeNAS (software-defined NAS) application. All other applications were migrated to the HP DL380p Gen8 using VMware vMotion technology:
After the migration, I reset the HP Microserver Gen8 to factory settings and sold it. A spatial separation of the servers also took place. The Veeam backup server is in one room and the VMware ESXi server is in another. The Home Lab now looks like this:
