This guide walks through the process of resetting the admin@local<\/strong><\/code> password on the VMware VCF Installer Appliance<\/strong> (previously known as Cloud Builder) when both the admin<\/code> and root<\/code> passwords are unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This procedure has been tested on VCF 9.1 \/ ESX 9.1<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prerequisites<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
    \n
  • Access to the VM Console<\/strong> via vCenter (no SSH required)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • The VCF Installer Appliance VM must be powered on<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Step 1 – Interrupt GRUB at Boot<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    1. Open the VM Console<\/strong> in vCenter for the VCF Installer Appliance<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. Reboot<\/strong> the VM<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. As soon as the GNU GRUB<\/strong> bootloader appears, press e<\/code><\/strong> to enter edit mode<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Step 2 – Modify Boot Parameters<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      In the GRUB editor, locate the line starting with linux<\/code>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
